About Breed

The Australian Labradoodle breed has an extraordinary history that starts at the early 1980’s. Wally Conron, who worked with the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia, was given the task to find a puppy that would be suitable for training as a guide dog, however would also have an allergy friendly non-shedding coat. This was his first intentional lab/poodle crossbreeding, where he succeeded and created our lovely dog. While the Labradoodle is a cross between the Labrador Retriever and Poodle, the Australian Labradoodle is considered to be a cross between the Labrador Retriever, Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel. This distinction of the breeds was formally recognized with the creation of the separate breed code Australian Labradoodle by the OFA (the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals).
